Today's Report
A little dusting of snow on top of the trails today. Another cool day with a bit of wind. Finding trails in the trees will help! You may find key spots like Back Red, Woolner and Teal’s Tango get drifted today. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky for some fantastic conditions!
To add to the excitement this weekend we have a Biathlon Race. It will only have a small affect on the network. The only trails that are used are Rainbow Out, Millennium Loop and a small section of Tealβs Tango. To connect to the rest of the network you will follow Green and then take the right at the top of the hill to slide up to the S-Climb. Cheer the racers and volunteers on if you see them. They are working hard on this frosty weekend!
Make sure to stop by the Front Desk to buy your Tealβs Tango Draw tickets. This is your last weekend!
A quick reminder for Trail Etiquette at Highlands. If slower skiers have the ability to move off to the side to to let faster skier go by that is appreciated, although not necessary. Faster skiers are responsible for going around a slower skier. It is not appropriate to call “Track” in a non race setting. Let’s work together to create a positive experience.
What would I be wearing while on the trails?
Top, 3 to 4 layers: my warmer base layer, merino baselayer that I use for a mid layer, a light fleece (I actually found the fleece too much for a solo ski, although would have kept it if I was skiing with others) and jacket on top.
Bottom, 2 layers (I never wear more than 2 just change the weight): my warmer base layer, and heavier outer pants. Proper underwear makes a difference too! The no cotton holds true to underwear just as much as your base layer.
Accessories : warm hat (Sauce Chill Toque), regular weight buff, warmest mitts (Auclair Gigatex, again I found these too much for a solo ski but good if I was skiing with someone), and my Lorpen socks. I usually put on some vaseline on my cheeks and lips to help cut the wind and add a layer of protection. It wonβt help with frostbite but it helps with wind burn.
