Highlands Nordic Trail Etiquette
Highlands Nordic Trail Etiquette
Guidelines to be a top notch cross country skier and good human being:
- Our ski trails are one way. Please follow the correct direction of the trail.
- Give a friendly call out to let slower skiers know you are coming up and which side you are going to pass.
- Faster skiers should go around slower skiers, but if a slower skier has time to move to the side that is helpful.
- If you need to stop, move off to the side of the trail and allow clear passage for other skiers.
- Dogs are only allowed on Teal’s Tango.
- Pack out what you pack in.
- Be friendly and respectful to everyone.
- If someone has blocked a section of the ski trail with crossed poles, proceed with caution as someone is likely hurt. Check in with there skier to make sure everything is OK before continuing with your ski.
- When herringboning uphill, make sure the way is clear, step out of the tracks and into the skate lane.
- Display your seasons pass badge (unless still being made) and trail ticket.
- At an intersection, look over your shoulder to make sure the way is clear.
- Do not walk on the ski trails. If you must remove your skis, walk on the side of the trail.
Things to know about Highlands:
- We are family owned and operated, thank you for your support!
- We do not have trail maps to hand out. There are maps at every intersection telling you where you are with colour coded arrows.
- Our ski trails open at 8:30 am, and close at 4:30pm. This means at 4:30pm, wherever you are on the trails you need to start heading back. We ask you to be out of the parking lot by 5pm.
- On Wednesdays and Fridays we have night skiing until 7:59pm.
- All our staff work really hard and deserve to head home on time. We will ensure all vehicles have left the parking lot safely before we leave.
See you on the trails!
