March 15

8AM Update:

We come to you live from Larry’s Glacier where Angus has just given his full report. He is pleasently surprised at how good it is and is very happy he got his butt out of bed (I may have added that part). He says tons of control, easy to get an edge and no problem snowplowing. It is 6 degree with a mix of sun and cloud. Make the most of spring!

I will be the first to admit it is looking like a wacky day out there. But there is a window of good skiing this morning! Chanse groomed at the end of the day yesterday with the Husky to allow it to set up overnight. It did not get very cold so it was just the ground frost. This means it hasn’t gone super hard. There is a bit of a crust that is easy to break through and get a edge, for skiers who feel confident on their skis. Angus will going for a ski shortly to confirm and if it isn’t what we think Chanse will do a quick buzz around with the snowmobile to break up the skate lane.

They are calling for thunderstorms at 11. It would be best to get out and enjoy your ski early. Although it will be quite warm, soft and slow after 2 would be another good opportunity to go as well.

The base will take a hit this weekend. We are quite deep in some spots and not so deep in other places. Things may start to change quickly if this keeps up.

Another great day on snow. This is Spring skiing at its finest. It will be fast with control in the morning and start to slow down as it gets warmer. Chanse has groomed with the Husky this morning. You will find the track on the left today. Again our transition time will likely be between 10 and 11.

We will continue skiing but this will likely be the last really good day until next week.

We are starting off the day with some fast groomed granular (but still able to get an edge) as it warms up it will go sugar snow and get softer and slower. The most ideal time to ski will be first thing. I think we will see a transition period around 11. The snow is still holding up and trails remain in good shape.

PS Saturday is slowly starting to look more favourable 🀞

This is THE day to go if you want to hit the trails before the rain. We still expect to have something to offer after the weekend we just can’t say exactly what shape it will be in! Staying below zero today it is a fun fast groomed granular with the ability to get an edge in thanks to Chanse and the Husky. The Husky is chewing up the trails so there is no ice. Just for funsies Chanse has put the track on the left side.

Tonight is the last night for Night Skiing!

March 11

Another sunny day in beautiful Duntroon! It is a little windier today, so even with the warmth you may want some layers as that wind coming out of the North West will be fresh. The temperatures are a switch from yesterday. It is start warm and then they are dropping through the day. The morning will be slower and softer (although didn’t get quite as mushy as expected yesterday), and then get faster as it cools. While the sun is up even as the temperature drops I dont think it will get icy. If you are concerned about that I would ski before 2pm.

Chanse has groomed with the snowmobile and ginzue to tidy up the skate lane. The track is in good shape from yesterday.

I hope you bought sunscreen in bulk for today because it is going to such an amazingly sunny day out. Days like today define Spring Skiing. It is going be fast (with control) in the morning and then slow down and get soft as it warms up. I suspect the big transition will happed between 10 and 11.

Today will be the last Get Active Club. Angie and Allan will be snowshoeing and I will be classic skiing today at 2PM. See you there!

It is looking in pretty great ship shape out there! What a fantastic day to be on snow today. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky. The snow is lovely with some speed and control. I know there was some concern about ice after the rain but there is not a bit of ice out on the trails! We are seeing some wind today so we may get some drifting on the Back Red, Woolner and Teal’s Tango.

Back to winter-like conditions! We have groomed powder that will be comfortable skiing with lot of control. Chanse has groomed with the Husky and had mixed the new snow into the base.

March 6

It will be a day of transitions. It didn’t get below zero until the wee hours of the morning which means it hasn’t firmed up just yet. Chanse is out grooming with the Husky to till everything up. It is a hard one to predict when things will shift. It will be slower to start and as the temperatures start to drop it will get faster. It is quite windy today so choosing trails in the trees will be important. We will see some drifting on Back Red, Woolner and Teal’s Tango.
