A nice little dusting of snow falling as Chanse grooms with the Husky. Trails are looking great for classic and as it warms up we might see a good skate day too. Chanse has put a track all the way around including all up and downhills. For some experienced skiers this could be a fun challenge. But for others, don’t feel like you need to be locked into the track! Step out of the track and move the skate lane to tackle any ups and downs you aren’t able to do in the tracks. Some questionable weather coming in the next couple of days. Get out while the skiing is good! We feel we will be able to get through it but who know how good conditions will be on the other side.

Fat biking is open. Riding will continue to be good today. Likely we will see some trail closures over the next couple of days to hopefully open back up for the weekend.Β Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Rental & Lesson Update: We are still working on our online system so we will continue to take bookings by phone for rentals and lessons.Β Once a reservation has been made, payment and filling out the rental form can be completed onsite.Β Please call 705-444-6959. Thanks in advance for your patience.

We request you complete the online Contact Tracing and screening when coming onto the PROPERTY the day you are visiting. You should complete this before you come to ski or snowshoe or fat bike. You cannot do this the night before. This is a public health requirement. This screening will be checked ONLY whenΒ entering the building. Entry is through the pro shop doors. Note that cell service may not be good enough to fill out the online form onsite. Once the screening and tracing is complete you will receive an email. Take a screen shot of your contact tracing so it easy to find if you are planning on coming into the building! If the email you receive has come back red, it means you have answered YES to one of the screen questions. In that case public health regulations mean you are NOT able to ski at our location that day. If the email you receive comes back green, we will see you on the trails shortly! As a back-up we will have a paper copy that can be filled out onsite. Click here to contact trace.Β This must be completed every day you come skiing!
Our conditions texting update program is back!Β We update the conditions page every morning, but sometimes things change through the day. With this program updates will come directly to you as a text. No app download required. Your phone number will not be shared. These updates are not to replace checking the conditions page, but to update you on changes through the day.Β Send you cell phone number to ski@highlandsnordic.ca

Another day in frostyland but don’t let that scare you off. The skiing is so great right now! Another excellent classic ski day. Skate will also be good just slow, with this squeaky cold snow. Layers will be key today but the best part is there is no wind! That makes it so much better. Once the sun peeks out today it will be great. Enjoy a ski with someone you care about this Valentines Day.

Fat biking is open. Riding is going to be really good today!Β Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Frosted tips are sooo in right now πŸ’β€β™€οΈ Another cold but totally awesome day on the trails! Little to know wind predicted makes all the difference on these days. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky for this perfect classic ski day. Skate skiing will be very slow today. Cold snow is slow snow! Get those layers and spend some time outside today.

Short description of the Strava Challenge: Start behind the chalet, ski up to Biathlon Range, down Sampson’s Loop, onto Millennium, loop Larry’s Magic, finish First Finger, Second Finger to Quarry, Flat 500, Back Orange, Ridge Top and then bring it home. Full description below πŸ‘‡Β

This weekend is the Highlands Strava challenge! Classic or skate the choice is yours! All you need to do is participate to be entered for our draw prize. The Strava route is called Highlands Nordic Adventure 2022. Just over 8km, come and explore different trails this weekend. Start by heading up to the Biathlon Range. To get there go to the end of the building and turn right to go up the hill. At the top, to your right you will see the portable. From there you can pop on your skis and head up the hill. The trail will veer to the left. Go past the Biathlon Range, go down the hill on the left and take the first right. You are now on the Sampson Loop! When you come to the T hang a right onto the Millennium Loop. Thats right…say hello to the Millennium Loop uphill. Come out of Millennium and hang a right at the hill just before the First Finger Hill. Go up and hang the first right. Fly down the hill (for a little Larry’s Magic) and do a quick overlap as you come back onto the Millennium Loop and head straight up the First Finger Hill and continue to the Second Finger. Dip down the Quarry Loop and ski around to the Flat 500. Follow the Back Orange and flow down to Ridge Top. You are almost done! Enter the final stretch of Hawberry Loop (only completing that section) and start to head home. Come down from Larry’s Glacier, following the trail around the Old Stadium (your usual way down), and finish off with the Recreational Downhill to come to end at the edge of the building. Congratulations and thanks for completing the first Highlands Strava Challenge.

Fat biking is open. Trails are riding really well with just a dusting of snow on top!Β Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Another wintery day at Highlands! A little cooler than yesterday and will continue to drop to -12. It is pretty windy today so you will find open areas will get drifted. It is also snow covered with new snow that has arrived since Chanse started grooming. Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky. Layer up, find trails in the trees today and embrace winter!

Chanse is out there grooming with the Husky this morning. It is suppose to snow a bit this morning but it hasn’t started yet. You may find the trails snow covered. It will be a good day to find trails in the trees today. Higher winds will cause some drifts in the open areas. We found that even though it was warm on Wednesday night conditions were still very fast. We will likely find the same tonight. Although it’s the fun kind of fast. You can easily get control with an edge.Β

Fat biking is open. Trails are riding pretty well right now. The Quarry is a little drifted.Β Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

We have received just about 1cm of new snow as Chanse is grooming with the Husky. It’s funny snow. Wet snow but granular. It will be fast today but still lots of control with your edge. Skate skiers will now have their time to shine after a very classic friendly month. The track will be on the left side still as it helps to pack down the trail evenly. You will likely find the trails a little snow covered today. Have fun with this little warm spell. I know I am trying to relearn what to wear when it’s not -15 πŸ˜‚

Fat biking is open. As the day progresses the riding will get better. If you can wait until afternoon it will give the trail a chance to firm up.Β Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Another leftyΒ special today. Chanse isΒ regrooming with the Husky and theΒ track will be on the left side. Skiing will be good today although conditions will get softer as the day goes on. Its going to be a warm one! Night skiing is on tonight, and is suppose to stay warm into the evening.Β

A couple of housekeeping items before we talk about how awesome the trails are.

– entry and exit should be through the ProShop doors onlyΒ

Chanse has gone around with the Husky to groom the trails just for you! It looks like we have a great day ahead of us. The trails will be excellent for both classic and skate.
