Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky. Trails are in good shape and remain a fun fast and firm. Skate skiing would be the technique of choice today! Classic will also be good with either waxables and skins. Today Chanse and Hayden will be doing a little bit of snow farming. They are going to be moving some snow on the lower network to ensure we can keep skiing for as long as we can! The focus will be around the Sugar Shack. Follow the V-Boards for the reroute to avoid the work.

Teal’s Tango is closed since its base is quite thin. Everything else is open expect for the Quarry Loop and South Ten. We are seeing some thin spots on Hawberry, the Rockside Loop, and on the Green by the Beaver Pond. It will all be very easy to see and avoid.

The snowshoeing trail is in great shape, and is a lovely way to explore the terrain at Highlands.

The Fat Bike trails are in good shape. The riding continues be fun and firm today! Return to the chalet via the same trail you rode out on in order to miss the short drifted section above the front field.

Don’t have a bike of your own? We have you covered! Call to book your rental and try something new today.

We are in for another great day on the trails. Conditions continue to be the same from the last couple of days. Chanse has taken out the Husky and regroomed everything. It should be nice and fast today!

Another great day for riding! There is a little bit of drifting around the Quarry section and return to the chalet via the same trail you rode out on in order to miss the short drifted section above the front field. But overall the riding will be fun and firm today!

Happy Family Day!

Could we have asked for better weather for Family Day? Temperatures will drop down to -2 today and its expected that the sun will peak through as well. Overall trails are in excellent condition. It will be fast but the fun kind of fast with the below zero temperatures. Looks like a great skate day! Chanse has taken out the Husky and regroomed everything.

Everything is open expect for the Quarry Loop and South Ten. We are seeing some thin spots on Hawberry, the Rockside Loop, and on the Green by the Beaver Pond. It will all be very easy to see and avoid. Teal’s Tango is open but will not be regroomed today given its thin base.

The snowshoeing trail is in great shape, and is a lovely way to explore the terrain at Highlands.

Fat biking will be great riding all day. Don’t have a bike of your own? We have you covered! Call to book your rental and try something new today. Return to the chalet via the same trail you rode out on in order to miss the short drifted section above the front field.

We have another day of awesome trail conditions.  No new snow overnight, but what we got on Thursday and Friday has set up perfectly.  Conditions will be better in the earlier part of the day while it’s cooler, but the sun is promising to show itself this afternoon, so it will be a great day to get out at any point!

We are hosting a demo day today, with our friends from Salomon, Fischer/Swix, and Rossignol bringing their latest ski equipment for you to try out.  Look for their tents set up in front of  the chalet.

The snowshoeing trail is in great shape, and is a lovely way to explore the terrain at Highlands.

Fat biking conditions are also really good right now.  Yesterday’s riders reported that a low psi worked well, and we’d recommend the same for today.  Return to the chalet via the same trail you rode out on in order to miss the short drifted section above the front field.

It was saddening, and maddening, to discover that people had been out walking and running on the ski, snowshoe, and fat bike trails, resulting in large post holes over long distances.  Please, under no circumstances, during the winter months, should people be on the ski trails without skis, or the snowshoe trails without snowshoes (please, no crampons/spikes either).  It takes a lot of work to try to fill the ruts and holes that are left, and reduces the enjoyment of the trails for other users.

What a difference a few days, and a little snow, makes!  It snowed most of the day yesterday at Highlands, which was just what we needed.  We will be back to mid-winter conditions, with machine groomed powder on top of a solid base.  The Quarry loop and South Ten (part of Woolner), are closed, and there are a few thin spots, but the rest of the network is in great shape.  We’ve had a lot of days this season where we’ve shied away from recommending waxable classic skis, because the conditions have been so variable.  Today will be a classic skier’s dream, with firm tracks in fresh snow.

Our snowshoeing will be fantastic today, with yesterday’s fresh snow.

Our trails will be open for fat biking.  The base underneath the new snow is very firm, but it will be soft conditions riding until the top layer gets packed down a bit more.  Come for a snowshoe today, and help make the riding fantastic for the rest of the weekend!

We will remain open for night skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing this Saturday evening.  Be sure to bring your own headlamp.

Winter’s back folks!  Ski trails are in great shape, just in time for an awesome Family Day weekend!

It has taken a lot of work to get the trails back to how you will find them.  Chanse spent most of yesterday tilling, and re-tilling to get the very firm surface back into something we’d enjoy skiing on.  Hayden spent all day yesterday shovelling snow onto the trails, and building up the thin spots.   A few areas still remain closed for now, including the Quarry loop, the South Ten on the Woolner loop, and Teal’s Tango.

It’s great to have some fresh snow again on our snowshoe trails, so come out and enjoy them.

Fat bike trails are closed until we get them packed down again.

We will be using today’s colder temperatures to try to blow some snow in the area outside the chalet, and leading to the parking lot.  Please avoid walking through this freshly made snow, and the snowmaking equipment.

We will be open for night skiing and snowshoeing this evening.

UPDATE:  8:30am  We will need to remain CLOSED ALL DAY today.

We lost quite a bit of snow yesterday, and without a significant amount of new snow we will not be able to reopen the Woolner, Hawberry, Quarry, and Teal’s Tango.   There are spots where we need to do some shovelling, and there are sticks and branches that need to be removed after yesterday’s high winds.  Please bear with us as we try to get the trails back into good shape

Let’s get back to doing that snow dance!  We need everything Mother Nature can give us over the next 36 hours.

UPDATE: Wednesday 3:30pm:  We will need to remain closed until noon tomorrow, in order to do some repair work to our trail system.  The temperatures do start dropping this evening, and should get below 0C in the wee hours tomorrow. A complete assessment of the effect of today’s wind and warmth won’t be possible until tomorrow.  Please bear with us as we try to get the trails back into good shape.

We will be open until noon today, then closed.  There will be no Wednesday night skiing.

Skiing won’t be great today.  Trails are soft and wet.  The temperatures never got below zero last night, so we are not going to put any grooming equipment out today because it would only make things worse.   You will find a few thin spots out there, and dirty patches, but I wouldn’t call it rock skiing yet.  Coverage over most of the network is still solid, and the thin spots are obvious and easy to step around.  Teal’s Tango and the Woolner loop are closed.

Our snowshoe trail is open today, but will be soft.  We are closed for fat biking until things harden up again.

We are gradually losing snow, but if we can make it through this warm spell, the forecast does improve, with some snow and colder temperatures predicted for the coming week.

Conditions this morning will again be firm and fast, but then will become softer by around 10am.  Chanse has taken the big machine out again, so you will find a new track and skate lane, except on Teal’s Tango where it is too thin.  Our base is getting thin in the usual places, Woolner and Hawberry loops, and there are a few other spots on the network that you can easily step around.

Please park in the upper lot today. Space will be tight, but it will be firm.

We are hosting a small high school race today.  They will be using the Rainbow trail to the bottom of the S Climb, and then will return to the chalet via the Green.

Looking at tomorrow’s forecast, we will likely need to close at noon, and will not be open for Wednesday night skiing.  Get your kilometres in while the snow lasts!

Fat biking and snowshoe trails are all open, and are in excellent condition right now!  The fat biking will become quite soft by this afternoon as the weather warms, so morning will definitely be better.

Today will be almost a carbon copy of yesterday’s conditions, except that it is not forecast to get as warm, so it should stay really good for a bit longer.  Chanse has taken the Husky out, so you will find freshly renovated skate and classic tracks.  Without any new snow, things are becoming thinner, particularly on the Woolner loop, and Hawberry loop, which receive the most sun.  There is a thin patch at the top of the quarry loop on the right side, but it is good  on the left where snow has been shovelled on to build up the base.  Conditions will be quick first thing, but then getting a bit softer as the day progresses.

Fat biking and snowshoe trails are all open, and are in excellent condition right now!
