February 10

WOW…all I can say is Mother Nature being a bit of a bummer. That beautiful sun we have been missing, warm wind and temperatures is making good conditions for water skiing instead of snow skiing.Β

Here is the deal for Saturday:

🐠 Ski trails will be closed on Saturday. Sunday is still up in the air. The snowshoe trails will remain open. A trail or Season’s Pass is required.Β

🐠 Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT walk on the ski trails!

🐠 Highlands Trailblazer Programs will still run and will ski on Teal’s Tango only.Β

🐠 The Cafe will be open from 10 to 1:30 on Saturday.

🐠 The ProShop will be open from 9 to 4 on Saturday, with our Feel the Love Sale is still on until February 14.

We hope to see you on the trails soon! Stay tuned for a Sunday update.

Our Annual Feel the Love Sale is back! Take 14% off all clothing and accessories, with 20% off ski, boots and poles until February 14.

February 9

The roller coaster of weather continues. In the effort to try and preserve snow we are going to close the trails today. We do believe we will be open again tomorrow but we can’t say what we will have or what kind of shape it will be in. 10 degrees plus a warm south west wind has us nervously chewing our finger nails as we watch it suck up all our lovely snow. But we will continue to do our best to offer you skiing this winter!

The ProShop will remain open from 9 to 4 today.

February 8

Another good day for skiing. Chanse has gone around in the Husky to clean things up for you. The skiing continues to be fast with control. It will be best to get out first thing in the morning. Just remember when I say get out first thing in the morning I am not talking about before we open. Trails open at 8:30. It is not a good idea to sneak up on machinery who’s job it is to grind things up especially when the driver isn’t expecting someone to be out on the trails. Enjoy being on the trails today and you might even see some sun!

With temperatures climbing to 10 degrees tomorrow we will likely keep the trails closed to preserve snow for the weekend. If we were in the middle of March we would say ski all day, but it is not. It is February and not even the middle of February. So we are going to try to hold onto this little bit of snow to make the weekend enjoyable for all!

We do have the Mayfield Invitational today for high school racers. The races start at 10:30 and will be done by early afternoon. The trails will not be closed and you can sneak around to the other trails that are not being used for the race. They are skate skiing.

There are a couple things to note.

We have a couple thin spots on Woolner Loop, Hawberry, top of Quarry and Teal’s Tango. The thin spots are there but they are minimal and easily avoidable. Once people start to snowplow our fine layer of snow will get pushed off. If you ever don’t feel comfortable please take your skis off and walk down the side of the trail.

The track is set on the left side. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. The skate skiers will pack down the snow to be able to make a firm track.

Make it your mission to get out for a ski today! It is awesome out there. It is a fast groomed granular but with lots of control and fun πŸ˜‰. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky. It is best to get out in the morning as it will get softer in the afternoon. The warm weather in the coming days will affect the trails we have open.

As a heads up we do have a high school race tomorrow. It was suppose to be a small event but has turned into over 200 athletes because so many races have been cancelled due to snow conditions. These racers need a certain number of races to be able to qualify for OFSAA. The races do not start until 11AM so we are suggesting you coming out for an early ski on Thursday. Although we will not be closing the trails so you can definitely sneak up to the trails they are not using. They won’t be skiing farther than a 7km loop. High school racing is skate skiing and won’t be using the track.

There are a couple things to note.

We have a couple thin spots on Woolner Loop, top of Quarry and Teal’s Tango. Once people start to snowplow our fine layer of snow will get pushed off but when I skied yesterday it was awesome. There were no concerns going downhill. Just keep an eye out. If you ever don’t feel comfortable please take your skis off and walk down the side of the trail.

The track is set on the left side again today. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. The skate skiers will pack down the snow to be able to make a firm track.

Make the most of the skiing while you can! Conditions are pretty good out there. Β We are moving into some warmer temperatures which is going to change the quality of the snow. Chanse has groomed with the Husky again to clean everything up, which is very help for those downhills. We continue to have a fast groomed granular that you can get an edge on. Getting out early will make a bit difference!

There are a couple things to note.

We have a couple thin spots on Woolner Loop, top of Quarry and Teal’s Tango. Once people start to snowplow our fine layer of snow will get pushed off. Most of the hills were fine. The hill that was the worst of it was coming down from Larrys Glacier and the Recreational downhill. If you ever don’t feel comfortable please take your skis off and walk down the side of the trail.

The track is set on the left side again today. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. The skate skiers will pack down the snow to be able to make a firm track.

There is no time for sleeping in today. Getting on the trails first thing will be key. Overall conditions are in great shape with another day of fast groomed granular. Chanse driving around in the Husky is breaking up the trail to ensure you can get an edge.

There are a couple things to note.

We are starting to see some thin spots on Woolner Loop, top of Quarry and Teal’s Tango. Once people start to snowplow our fine layer of snow will get pushed off. Most of the hills were fine. Another stellar day to be out on the trails! Keep those PB’s and Strava Crowns coming! A great day for Demo Day. Come test out some gear from Salomon, Rossignol & Madshus from 10 to 3! Don’t forget to enter into the draw as you walk into the ProShop. Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky and conditions will be more of the same as what we have had the last couple of days. It is a fast groomed granular where you can still get an edge and have control. The best timing for a ski is first thing.

Chanse has switched the track to the left side of the trail again. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. The skate skiers will pack down the snow to be able to make a firm track.

Overall conditions are in very good shape. There are a few things to note.

I would say most of the hills were fine. The hill that was the worst of it was coming down from Larrys Glacier and the Recreational downhill. Oh boy if you are looking to get some PB’s or take some Strava Crowns today is your day! It will be fast but in a fun way today πŸ˜‰Β Chanse has groomed our fast (but still able to get an edge) groomed granular with the Husky. It is making for some great conditions. Chanse has switched the track to the left side of the trail today. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. The skate skiers will pack down the snow to be able to make a firm track.

We are starting to see some thin spots on Woolner Loop and Teal’s Tango.

As much as I am excited to see the sun it is not going to be helpful to the trails. That sun can soak up some base pretty darn quick. So make the most of it while it lasts and get for a ski this weekend! Don’t forget your sunscreen πŸ€—

Our Annual Feel the Love Sale is back! Take 14% off all clothing and accessories, with 20% off ski, boots and poles until February 14. Demo Day is also this weekend on Sunday February 4. Come test out some gear from Salomon, Rossignol & Madshus!

February 2

Looks like we are gearing up for a pretty good ski day. We received a dusting of snow that mixed in nicely to the base with Chanse out in the Husky. Chanse shovelled his little heart out yesterday to take care of some of the dirty spots. We are seeing a few thing spots on Woolner and Teal’s Tango. Skiing will be fast but with control today. It will be a fun day! Chanse has switched the track to the left side of the trail today. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. For those curious/concerned; we did not receive rain yesterday. There was a light drizzle near the end of the day into the early evening but nothing major.

There is a small high school event today. They will be skate skiing. If you see them ski by give them a cheer! They are working towards the goal of OFSAA.

By the way…Demo Day is this weekend on Sunday February 4. Come test out some gear from Salomon, Rossignol & Madshus!

February 1

Anyone else in disbelief that is February?! Let’s hope that it brings us a snowstorm or 2.

Chanse has cleaned up the skate lane with the Ginzue and left the solid track from yesterday. We are seeing some icicles drop into the track from the trees. You will find classic skiing won’t be good first thing but get better as the day goes on. Skate skiing will be awesome all day long!

By the way…Demo Day is this weekend on Sunday February 4. Come test out some gear from Salomon and Madshus!

There will be a few dirty spots out on the trails but they are minimal. On Woolner there will be a few wet spots.
