The Husky finally hits the trails! Chanse was very excited to wake up to about 10cm of dense snow because that meant he wasn’t layering up to hop on the snowmobile. He was going to be kicking his shoes off a cursing around the Husky groomer. He probably would have appreciated it a little more during the -20 night but still he is a happy camper!

The good news continues! The Woolner Loop is now open πŸ€—. Trails are in excellent shape and it will be a fantastic day on snow today. There is one wet spot on the Woolner Loop (fun fact the Woolner Loop is basically a swamp! Which is why it takes so long for us to be able to open it) but other than that skiing will be great.

As a reminder we are closing today at 2:30, and will be closed all day tomorrow. Last trail ticket sold today will be 12:30. Our staff are really excited to be heading home to spend time with family so please be off the trails, bags packed and heading to your car by 2:30.

Chanse and Tim working away again this morning to freshen up the trails for us. The track and skate lane have been regroomed with the snowmobile and ginzue. Looks like we have some snow coming today. Although it is not snowing just yet here you will likely find the trails snow-covered later in the day! Conditions are excellent and heard from a lot of people yesterday how great the skiing was. Get out and enjoy your time on snow!

Trust me when I say the cold is not too bad today! It is cold but so still, there is little to no wind which makes all the difference in the world. Wear some proper layers and face coverings and you will be cozy and warm, especially in the trees. Some of my favourite skis have been a -20.

Chanse and Tim have regroomed everything with the snowmobile and ginzue this morning. Trails are in excellent shape although of course they will be a bit soft with the fresh snow we have received. Cold snow is slow snow so you won’t be breaking any records today! But it will be a beautiful day on the trails. Classic would be my top choice of technique if you have the option to choose.

Special Delivery! Just shy of 20cm of new snow fell on top of a busy night for Chanse as he fired up our new snow gun “The Halo”. To try and take advantage of these cold nights we are going to attempt to lay a good blanket of snow around the Chalet, Teaching Area and Recreational Downhill. It is an exciting addition to our fleet of equipment.

Trails will be in excellent condition although of course it will be a bit soft with all this new snow. You may find it gets a little drifted in the open areas. Tim and Chanse have been working away at the trails with the snowmobile and ginzue to regroom the skate lane and track.

Now I don’t want to hear; but Kelly it’s chilly out there! Well, layer up folks because I can guarantee you will be happy you got out on the trails today. In the trees it will be nicely protected. As Dad always said there is no bad weather only bad clothing choices. And maybe it’s worth a visit to the ProShop for an extra layer or two πŸ˜‹

*Today there is a fun event put on by the Highlands Trailblazers, called the Yuletide Blast. If you are interested in joining in on a fun little race this morning all you need is a trail pass or Season’s Pass plus a $5 fee. Visit the Big Grey Box at 9AM to sign up. For the race Teal’s Tango will be closed from 10 to noon.Β

December 20

A lovely bit of light snow came yesterday which has been great to mix into the base. Chanse and Tim have freshened things up with the snowmobile and ginzue. The skate lane and track has been reset. The snow will be fast but in a fun way where you can get an edge. Night Skiing is a go for tonight! Don’t forgot your headlamp and the building closes at 8 so please be done your ski by then.

There are still a couple thin spots to step around. The Sugar Shack and the last hill on the Back Red (The Wolf) are the main ones. It will be a little thin on Teal’s Tango as well.

Everything expect Quarry and Woolner Loop are open.

Skiing feedback coming in yesterday is that it was pretty good. Today you will find it a bit faster because it is colder. There are a couple thin spots to step around. The Sugar Shack and the last hill on the Back Red (The Wolf) are the main ones. Tim and Chanse did what shovelling they could on those spots to help. We have received a little dusting of snow that is sitting in the Track from yesterday (it is still a bit shallow). Hope to see you on the trails soon!

Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange with Millennium and Back Red are open.

We have lived to ski another day! It is pretty firm and fast today. Skating will be better and likely experienced skiers will find it more enjoyable than beginners. There are some icy spots but overall the skiing is pretty good. You will be fine with your good skis. Chanse and Tim are working on a new track but it will be shallow.

The boys are still investigating certain sections of trail but for now Green, Blue, Yellow, and Orange with Millennium are open. We may have a few more trails to add once they are done grooming.

No Night Skiing tonight.

Well there are have been better nights in Duntroon….last night was wet and worst of all windy.

Honestly we haven’t been able to get on the trails to truly evaluate what we lost. We are hopefully to still have our core network and will check it out later when it is a bit colder and safe to put machinery on without doing any damage.

We will close the trails for at least one more day.

The store will be open from 9 to 4 today.

I have to say this weather has been a real emotional roller coaster! We are up and then we down. I know I can’t be the only one waiting for the nice boring ride of consistent temperatures and snow ❄️

We will close the trails today in an effort to preserve the snow during this little rain and warm spell.

The store will be open from 9 to 4 today. We will confirm tomorrow but there is a good chance we will close the trails again for Tuesday.
