December 14

Looks like we are able to squeeze out some trails with that nice little snowfall we got yesterday. It will be better to get your ski in by noon. Skiing will be much better up top. I would use some caution on the downhills.

I am having trouble trying to dressing up Chanse’s description of the trails this morning so I’ll just quote him instead. “Not great, not horrible” Says Chanse, Head Groomer of Highlands Nordic at 6:36AM via text. Come on out and stretch your legs if you are keen for a ski this morning!

Early season snow is not for beginners and we are suggesting rock skis. There are thin spots throughout the network and we have our early season roll on the trails that will stick around until there is more snow to be able to push around to make the trails flatter.

Blue, Yellow, and Orange are open.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WALKING ON THE TRAILS. Walking on the trails can do lasting damage. If we want to go for a walk visit the front desk and we can give you directions to several Bruce Trail starting points.

Lessons and rentals will not be available until snow conditions have improved.Β

December 11

Trails are closed until we get more snow! We received a dusting last night so at least things look pretty again. Waiting eagerly for our next big snow fall. In the meantime….Please do NOT walk on the trails.

The ProShop will remain open from 9 to 4 and right now we have our Back to the BASEics Sale on now!

Need to do some Christmas and Holiday shopping? Come and check out our shop for the Nordic Nerd in your life.

December 10

Well another disappointing showing from Mother Nature. We are back to nothing on the trails. Cue my biggest Charlie Brown Sigh.

Yes, it was warm but it was really the warm wind that did us in. So now is the time for your snow dance and hope for a big storm soon!

Jackrabbits will still go with other activities.

Please do NOT walk on the trails. There is mud and the trails are soft which will make a total mess if they are walked on.

The ProShop will remain open from 9 to 4.

December 9

Oh boy…that was a warm and windy night.

Trails are closed today. We are trying to remain positive, but it does look like we will be starting from scratch after today. As always, stay tuned.

Jackrabbits is still a go but parents please remember…no walking on the trails.Β Walking on the trails can do lasting damage. If we want to go for a walk visit the front desk and we can give you directions to several Bruce Trail starting points.

We will be operating on store hours while the trails are closed, 9 to 4.

December 8

We are holding onto today with the warm temperatures and you will notice the downhills are a little slicker today but it should be pretty decent if not slow skiing. Apply your Easy Glide and wax your skis for the best chance of success today! Chanse has gone around to tidy things up with the pan and snowmobile.

There is some r@!n predicted for tomorrow….I don’t want to talk about it 😩 Stay tuned to see if that arrives.

We have received 5cm of very wet dense snow. Chanse has had to roll the snow first and then used the pan to smooth it out.Β Make sure to have your skis wax and apply your Easy Glide otherwise you are going to be working a lot harder than you need to! Around the Sugar Shack is still a little thin but up top is decent skiing. Downhills have improved a lot.

December 6

We received a little dusting of snow. Chanse has gone out with the snowmobile and pan to try and chew up the small amount of base we have. It is starting to get a bit icy coming down from the Glacier and other hills. We are hoping the grooming job and the touch of snow will help!

Look out especially around Sugar Shack Hill, Green and down from the Glacier. Walk the downhills off to the side of the trail if necessary.

Not to be a negative nelly but if you want to get some skiing in this week now is the time. I hate to swear on the Conditions Page but we have some r@!n coming later this week. We are hoping that will change but you never know.

Right now less is more so Chanse did not groom today but there was very little traffic yesterday so it will still be in pretty good shape. All reports came back saying that the Β little bit of snow made a big difference.

Sugar Shack Hill and Green are the worst of it.

Chanse has gone out to groom with the snowmobile and pan to tidy things up from the weekend. We got a little dusting of snow last night and it looks like it is trying here again today.Β Once you get to Larry’s Glacier it is better than yesterday! The little dusting of snow really helped. Sugar Shack Hill and Green are the worst of it. Chanse did not groom the Green today.

While Chanse was grooming yesterday we received another 5cm, but we haven’t received anything over night. We didn’t see the temperature drop we were hoping for so Chanse will not be grooming today. With softer snow and these warm temperatures grooming (especially the skis on the snowmobile) can do more damage than help.

As people found out yesterday you NEED Easy Glide to have a fun and success trip out on the trails right now. It is very sticky snow. Having Easy Glide and making sure your skis are glide waxed will make a world of difference.
