January 21

Another cool day out but with proper layers and trail choices your will find your day on the trails will be quite nice. The wind is picking up so I think you will find the first 100m is the worst. Once in the trees it makes a world of difference. Key spots like Back Red, Hawberry and Teal’s Tango will get drifted, but the core network will be in good shape.

Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky!

What would I be wearing while on the trails?

Top, 4 layers: my warmer base layer, merino baselayer that I use for a mid layer, a light fleece (I actually found the fleece too much for a solo ski, although would have kept it if I was skiing with others) and jacket on top.

Bottom, 2 layers (I never wear more than 2 just change the weight): my warmer base layer, and heavier outer pants. I forgot to add proper underwear! No cotton holds true to underwear just as much as your base layer.

Accessories πŸ’β€β™€οΈ: warm hat (Sauce Chill Toque), regular weight buff, warmest mitts (Auclair Gigatex, again I found these too much for a solo ski but good if I was skiing with someone), and my Lorpen socks. I usually put on some vaseline on my cheeks and lips to help cut the wind and add a layer of protection. It won’t help with frostbite but it helps with wind burn.

We have a bit of a cold snap ahead of us but don’t skip out on your ski because of it! Pay attention to the winds and add some layers. Skiing in the cold can be some of the best skiing. We had some beautiful fluffy snow come down to mix into the base. Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky.

Looks like in the morning the winds will be quite still and in the afternoon it picks up. Of course I will still be heading out for 2pm Ski Club! I will be classic skiing but skaters are also welcome.

January 19

Another classic January day! We have a great day of skiing ahead of us. Here’s where I will admit to you that yes it is super chilly out there BUT little to no wind called for today. This can make all the difference in the world. Trust me; add an extra layer and you will have the best ski.

Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky. It is currently lightly snowing so you mind find things a little snow-covered if it keeps up. Still this silly wet spot on Woolner Loop but it is easy to avoid. The Green has been double tracked.

We have a great day of skiing ahead of us! Conditions are excellent with our usualΒ wet spots on the Woolner Loop. Chanse regroomed everything with the Husky. Our track has moved back to the right side of the road and he has double tracked the Green Trail.

We are dealing with some sticky snow! Ensure your skis have been waxed and that you are using products like Easy Glide to help keep you moving on the trails.

Somehow we lucked out with some warmer temperatures AND great snow! Skiing will be fantastic. The skate skiers will be very happy today I think.

Everything is open, although our wet spots continue to persist on the Woolner Loop. Chanse regroomed everything with the Husky. He did track set a lot of the downhills today which he doesn’t normally do. We always recommend if you think there is a chance you will be snowplowing always start outside of the track. Instead of starting in the track and trying to step out. Unless of course you feel comfortable stepping in and out of the track at higher speeds!

We continue to have the track on the left side. Why you ask? We are trying to create a firm and even base. Chanse will do this a couple times a season since skate skiers do a great job of packing down the left side of the trail with their skate technique. By switching they will pack down the right side of the trail which will make for a firm track for our classic skiers!

Night skiing is on tonight. No sun=not a lot of solar juice to run the lights. Bring a headlamp as back up!

Nothing makes me happier than when I go to bed and its snowing, and I wake up the next morning to 20cm of snow! It is the best feeling. Lots of new fresh snow came overnight. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky, although you will find it a bit soft today.

Everything has been groomed just our same old wet spot on Woolner. Trails may get a be a bit snow-covered through the day. Looks like we have a little wind today, so with this new snow you may find it a bit drifted in spots.

Night skiing is on tonight! Be sure to have your back up headlamp.

We have another great day on snow ahead of us here! Chanse has regroomed with the Husky this morning with a small twist…he has switched the track to the left side. Why do we do this other than to mess with you? Answer: we aren’t trying to mess with you πŸ˜‹ What we are trying to do is to create a firm and even base. Chanse will do this a couple times a season since skate skiers do a great job of packing down the left side of the trail with their skate technique. By switching they will pack down the right side of the trail which will make for a firm track for our classic skiers!

Do not snooze on the liquids and wax today. Make sure your skis have been waxed recently and use Easy Glide on waxless skis.

Everything has been groomed just our same old wet spot on Woolner. Trails will be a bit snow-covered as it is currently snowing.

Join me for our 2PM Get Active Club today. There is no charge just a fun way to motivate you (and me) to get out on the trails. I will be skating today but classic skiers are more than welcome to come!

I could just rinse and repeat my report from yesterday. It is going to be a fantastic day on snow. If you weren’t sure you were going to try and get out for a ski today you better think again. It will be sooo worth it! There was a little dusting of snow and Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky. Still the wet spots on the Woolner Loop that you can work around easily.

It is another Easy Glide type of day! Bad news is we are waiting on our shipment of Easy Glide so we are out in the shop. So if you have some Easy glide share with a friend! We will also have some Easy Glide tune ups for a $1 on the Service Bench to ensure you have a glidey day.
