March 24, 2024

With only a light dusting of snow arriving overnight and such a thin base underneath, Chanse is out doing a quick cleanup with the ginzue, trying to keep things in shape for us. The track set yesterday will be left alone.

March sun is glorious for our disposition but wreaks havoc with snow. Moisture is starting to bleed through the base in spots and the sun can change conditions quickly through the day. As it gets warm over the next couple of days, it won’t last long out there with such a minimal base! If there’s any lesson we learned this winter, it’s enjoy it while you can!

Our 8km trail (Yellow to Second Finger and Back Orange) will be open today from 9-4. Our reduced network price is $20. Late season snow is not for beginners. These are rock ski conditions. No rentals are available and the cafe is closed.

Saturday, March 23

As the cats are away, we continue to play! Proshop and Trails will be open 9-4 today. Come for a spring ski!

Malcolm headed out early on the snowmobile with the ginzue and is reporting amazingly good conditions given the time of year! The icy and thin spots from Thu/Fri are now solid and filled in with the the snowfall over the past 24 hours. It is still a bit roll-y, typical of new snow and thin-base conditions that haven’t been tilled. The best news for classic lovers is that there is now a track set on our 8km loop. It is still the Yellow Trail with 2nd Finger and Back Orange that are open – now groomed for both skate and classic.

Please keep in mind that late season snow is not for beginners. We are still recommending rock skis. No rentals will be available and the cafe is closed. Trails and Proshop are open 9-4pm today. Our reduced network price for a trail ticket today is $20.

Friday, March 22nd

Things are looking very snowy here at Highlands, with more of the fluffy stuff forecasted to fall today.
In an effort to preserve the snow we received, trails have not been re-groomed today. Snow is hardpacked and will soften as the day goes on. There are a few thin spots on Rainbow Out and the Recreational downhill, rock skis are recommended.
Yellow loop and Back Orange are open, all other trails are closed. Pro-shop and trails open from 9am-4pm, and the cafe is closed.

Thursday, March 21st 2024

While the cats are gone away the mice come out to play!
Of course winter has decided to make a reappearance right when our groomer goes away.. sigh. But fear not, Malcom came to the rescue and has rolled and panned 8km of trail for you to enjoy!
The Yellow trail with the 2nd finger, and Back Orange are open, all other trails are closed. It’s a little icy on Rainbow out, please keep in mind late season snow is not for beginners, and we are recommending rock skis. There are thin spots throughout the network and trails are not completely flat, with a small amount of base. No rentals will be available, and the cafe is closed. Pro-shop & trails open from 9am-4pm.

Well my friends it have been a slice…a skinny slice but a slice nonetheless. The snow we received on Thursday is gone. With warm temperatures, wind and rain we are going to have to close the trails. Unless there is a major dump of snow we are closed for the season. We have lost our base in most spots. This was not how we were hoping to end the season but it is out of our control! Thanks to everyone for their support.

March 1

We are going through another wild temperature swing. This time going up! We are at -7, by 2pm it is suppose to be plus 7. Needless to say it will be better getting out for a ski in the morning if you can.

We have some lovely powder on top but it is really firm underneath so we weren’t able to get a track in for today. Of course you can still classic ski there just isn’t a track to assist you.

Chanse has regroomed with the snowmobile and ginzue. The one thin spot to note is coming off the Back Red. Either walk down the Recreational Downhill or ski down the Teaching Hill to come home.

Skiing right now can be tricky in some sections so we are suggesting not for beginners. Otherwise it is hard to say what it is like because it is changing so quickly. I think we can safely say that it is good because it is snow, but it certainly isn’t our normal ideal for this time of year. Although people who skied yesterday said they had a fun day!

Night skiing is cancelled tonight. We don’t believe it will stay safe for night skiing.

Green, Hawberry, Quarry, Woolner Loop, and Teal’s Tango are closed.

2:45 Update:

Classic track has been removed.

9AM Update:

Chanse is back in with a full report. The short story is there are some good parts and some not so good parts.

Here is the long story.

On some sections it went to pure ice yesterday and so today on those sections the snow that is falling is having a hard time sticking to that base. Malcolm is going to be driving around on the snowmobile with the ginzue to try and catch the snow that is fall. It is continuing to snow heavily. There are a few spots that have some derby from some trees that have fallen. We don’t think you will require rocks skis.

Coming off Back Red is a bit thin and Hawberry Loop is closed. The good news out of all of this is the downhills are holding up 🤯. The only exception to that rule is Recreational Downhill. You will need to walk down that section.

If you have some free time today and you would like to do some stick flicking that would be great!

Today is only for experienced skiers.

Oh hey winter! Winter thought they would just pop back for a minute because it realized we didn’t want to be done just yet. Today will set us up nicely for the weekend.

Chanse is working his way through the trails with the Husky. We have received 10cm of snow and it continues to fall heavily. Trails will be snow covered. As you can guess yesterday did quite a bit of damage and although this is helping it is not quite fully solving the problem yet. You will find it thin around the chalet to just beyond the Sugar Shack. Up top is much better. The track starts at the top of S-Climb. The only other spot of concern we think will be coming off Look Out towards the Glacier. It will be thin so please use caution.

Admittedly it won’t be great skiing today but it will be pretty good in the coming days. But we are ready for you if you are just keen to get in some skiing today!

It will be a day of learning more as the day goes. We will update when we can on this page. Please check in at the Front Desk for all the latest information!

Green, Woolner Loop, and Teal’s Tango are closed.

PS you will noticed I didn’t put a grip wax suggestion. There is no way I am going to try and figure what is going to work with this snow and the base we had. Closest guess is a klister covered with hardwax 😋

The trails went from pretty good to a big old soupy mess in a hurry. Trails will be closed today and we will see what we have tomorrow morning. It is suppose to snow overnight so things are looking promising for the rest of the week. As always we will keep you posted when we can!

11AM Update:

Holy cow is it awesome out there! Down by the chalet and out to the Sugar Shack certainly doesn’t make it look promising but once you are just out Rainbow Out it is a whole different world. Conditions are excellent with only the odd thin or icy spot that is easily avoided. Top of Second Finger is the worst of it. It is starting to slow down and get sticky but getting out for a Spring ski would be an excellent way to be outside today.

__________________________________________

Looks like Spring has officially arrived. I know this because my cat; Toothless (think sleek black dragon), went out on his own accord yesterday. So far trails are holding up. It is not quite the good skiing we have been having but it is not bad. It will get softer as the day goes on. It is icy around the chalet and just around the corner. Plus the Upper Stadium just before the Recreational Downhill.

There is the odd dirt spot. Mostly around the first corner as you leave the chalet, Wolf Hill, and coming off the Back Red. So far we don’t need to resort to rock skis. The coverage is holding up!

Chanse has regroomed with the snowmobile and ginzue. The Track is left in place from yesterday and is still in great shape.

Teal’s Tango & Quarry Loop are closed, with a few thin spots on Rockside off the Woolner Loop.

The Cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday. During the week from 10 to 3, and on the weekend from 10 to 4.
