December 12

Back in action with the hopes of more arriving today with snow squalls!

Chanse has regroomed everything with the snowmobile and ginzue. The little bit of snow has mixed in nicely to the current base. First thing will be decently fast where you can get edge, but it will likely quickly slow down as new snow arrives. It is snowing right now so the trails will become snow-covered. There is one thin spot on the last hill of the Big Red (the Wolf).

Everything is open expect for the Woolner Loop.

For day users trail tickets will be regular price. Click for rates.

December 11

We have decided to close for one more day. The base remains in good shape depth wise but it is dangerously firm. Chanse tried to use the ginzue to break it up but it is still very firm and fast without getting any edge. Unfortunately we don’t have enough base to take out the Husky. The snow coming today and overnight will make a big difference. Stay tuned and see you soon!

The store will remain open from 9 to 4.

11:20 Update:

Word coming in is that things have turned extra fast with the freezing rain. Like hold onto your hats fast. If you are still feeling keen on a ski today it is really only for experience skiers out there now

__________

It should be an interesting day here weather-wise. It is call for freezing rain, which although is unpleasant to deal with in the rest of our lives it is in fact good news for the ski trails. Freezing rain accumulates which can add to and mix into the base. Rain just melts. So here’s to hoping there will be freezing rain! Chanse has regroomed the skate lane with the snowmobile and ginzue, the track in still in good shape. There is one spot on the last hill of the Back Red, The Wolf, where the rock is peeking through a little bit. Other than that skiing is good! It is setting up as a good skate day.

As a heads up; with the warm direction the temperatures we are getting to tomorrow (Tuesday) we will likely close to the public tomorrow in an effort to preserve our base. As of Wednesday things turn back in our favour again. Everything will be confirmed here tomorrow.

Everything is open expect for the Woolner Loop.

December 8

We have a bit of a warm spell today but the trails remain in good shape. If you are classic skiing bust out those waxless and skins! Make sure your skis are waxed and you have liquids to help your skis glide. Chanse has regroomed everything with the snowmobile and ginzue. You may find some drifts, that will cause some rolling on the trails. And just little fun reminder it is December 8 with no rock skis! It has been a little while since we have been able to do that πŸ€—

A little shout out to Tim who has been working alongside Chanse to get the trails in tip top shape.

Everything is open expect for the Woolner Loop.

I know we are eagerly looking at the forecast the next couple days. *Knock on wood*, it is all looking manageable with temperatures dropping again soon. If we don’t get a Mother Nature curveball we will be skiing next weekend.

Pat on the back to Chanse. He literally worked all night. First on a ginzue repair and then on getting loops like Millennium, Quarry and Back Red open. Everything is in pretty good shape. It will be soft and crazily enough we are seeing some bleed through in a few spots. It seems the ground has not had a chance to freeze up yet. Other than that the skiing is great. Come join us in our Winter Wonderland this weekend!

December 6

The Duntroon Snow Globe is working its magic! More snow has fallen and Chanse has regroomed everything with the snowmobile and ginzue. You will likely find things a bit snow-covered and wind blown today, especially on Teal’s Tango. It is a blustery day in the neighbourhood! Put on the layers and join us for a ski!

We have Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange, and Teal’s Tango are open. We are working on getting Millennium and Quarry Loop open, I will update at 9 if there has been success. I have not included it in our distance totals.

For day users trail tickets are $25.

It is only getting better and better out there with little bits of snow each day! Chanse has cleaned things up with the snowmobile and ginzue. It will be continue to be a little bit soft and you may find Teal’s Tango is a little wind blown.

Looks like a beauty day to be out on the trails. Conditions will be a little soft. There are only a couple spots where moisture is bleeding up but there should be no reason not to use your good skis! The track has been set from yesterday and Chanse has cleaned up the skate lane with the snowmobile and Ginzue. You may find Teal’s Tango is a little wind blown today.

December 3

9:30 Update:

Progress has been made with a track! Chanse has gotten a track around the network. We are open for classic and skate.

_______________________________

A nice little addition of 25cm of new snow has come in the last 24hrs 🀩

This will do wonders for the trails as you can imagine but it is going to take some time to manage it since we want to pack it properly to add to the base. Currently Chanse and Tim (Chanse’s new right had man!) have been rolling and packing with the snowmobiles. Once that is done they will pan the trails to smooth it out. Give the boys some time to work through it. Push your ski start time until 9 instead of the crack of 8:30.

Keep an eye out for Chanse and Tim on the trails as they slowly start to work on opening other parts of the network.

We have Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange, and Teal’s Tango are open for rock skiing*.

Conditions will be soft. We are saying rock skiing although the coverage has improved quite a bit but we will still be seeing that early season roll on the trails.

For day users trail tickets are $20.

*Rock skiing is typical early season skiing when we don’t quite have the base for full coverage on the trails. This is not a time for beginners or for people who aren’t as comfortable on their skis. Rock skiing is experienced skiers only and we suggest using a set of skis that you don’t mind getting scratches on.

No lessons or rentals are available at this time.

Regular Trail Hours are between 8:30 and 4:30. Please come off the trails by 4:30 so the building can close at 5.
