8:45 Update:

Chanse has managed to get the Woolner Loop open as well! It is a bit thin in a few spots and where Teal’s Tango completely lost its base you will see some grass poking through. Other than that we are happy to report we are fully open!

As we know winter has been a bit of a Diva lately but she is back and putting on a good performance! Fresh snow last night and more in the coming days. As you can imagine this snow is making a big difference on the trails. Chanse is out in the Husky preparing the trails for you. It is currently snowing so you will see snow covered trails when you are out for your awesome ski today.

Woolner Loop are closed. We are still see it a little bit thin on the knuckle of the Quarry Loop and on Teal’s Tango.

A bit more shovelling for Chanse and adding Malcolm M to the mix. Green is now in better shape and snow has been pushed onto the Recreational Downhill, although we are still seeing a few icy patches on that hill so just use some caution. The other hills and trails are in pretty good shape. The track has been left in place and Chanse has cleaned up the skate lane with the Ginzue. The skiing isn’t perfect but is pretty darn good out there! Looks like we have some snow in the forecast 🤗

Teal’s Tango, Quarry & Woolner Loop are closed. We are seeing some thin spots coming off the Back Red, Ridge Top and Hawberry.

We have a small high school event today for athletes to qualify for OFSAA! The trails will remain open and they are skating. The trails will be the most active from 1030 to noon. Give them a cheer and a wave as they go by! 🎉

Reports coming in yesterday is that the skiing is good! It is a fast (or effortless as Angus likes to say) groomed granular with control. It will start to slow down and soften up a bit as it gets warmer today. The track is in place from yesterday and Chanse is cleaning up the skate land with the Ginzue and snowmobile.

Admittedly around the chalet looks rough but once you get beyond the Sugar Shack in really improves especially once you get up top. The only other spot to note is the Recreational Downhill is a bit thin but navigable. Chanse will be shovelling that this afternoon so we will see it improve by tomorrow.

I got to say the only reason I want to see a shovel again is if I am digging myself out of a massive snowstorm. I will be glad not to see the business en of a shovel for a while. Overall yesterday we did about 20 hours of shovelling. HUGE shout out to Cherie M & Chris S for putting their muscles to use and helping out.

Of course Chanse is the champion shoveler and put in the most hours. And all that work is paying off as he drives around in the Husky. We received a nice little dusting of snow that mixed in nicely and the trails are tilling up really well. You will find a fast groomed granular with a good edge. The track back in its rightly spot on the right hand side. Down at the chalet was icy up to the Sugar Shack but we have been able to chew it up to make it all very skiable. I do believe that will be the worst spot you will come across. Once people start snowplowing on the downhills we may start to see the fine layer of snow get pushed off.

Based on yesterday it is hard to believe we are back skiing on decent conditions again! Looking forward to seeing you on the trails.

WOW…all I can say is Mother Nature being a bit of a bummer. That beautiful sun we have been missing, warm wind and temperatures is making good conditions for water skiing instead of snow skiing. 

Here is the deal for Saturday:

🐠 Ski trails will be closed on Saturday. Sunday is still up in the air. The snowshoe trails will remain open. A trail or Season’s Pass is required. 

🐠 Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT walk on the ski trails!

🐠 Highlands Trailblazer Programs will still run and will ski on Teal’s Tango only. 

🐠 The Cafe will be open from 10 to 1:30 on Saturday. 

🐠 The ProShop will be open from 9 to 4 on Saturday, with our Feel the Love Sale is still on until February 14.

The roller coaster of weather continues. In the effort to try and preserve snow we are going to close the trails today. We do believe we will be open again tomorrow but we can’t say what we will have or what kind of shape it will be in. 10 degrees plus a warm south west wind has us nervously chewing our finger nails as we watch it suck up all our lovely snow. But we will continue to do our best to offer you skiing this winter!

Another good day for skiing. Chanse has gone around in the Husky to clean things up for you. The skiing continues to be fast with control. It will be best to get out first thing in the morning. Just remember when I say get out first thing in the morning I am not talking about before we open. Trails open at 8:30. It is not a good idea to sneak up on machinery who’s job it is to grind things up especially when the driver isn’t expecting someone to be out on the trails. Enjoy being on the trails today and you might even see some sun!

With temperatures climbing to 10 degrees tomorrow we will likely keep the trails closed to preserve snow for the weekend. If we were in the middle of March we would say ski all day, but it is not. It is February and not even the middle of February. So we are going to try to hold onto this little bit of snow to make the weekend enjoyable for all!

We do have the Mayfield Invitational today for high school racers. The races start at 10:30 and will be done by early afternoon. The trails will not be closed and you can sneak around to the other trails that are not being used for the race. They are skate skiing.

There are a couple things to note.

We have a couple thin spots on Woolner Loop, Hawberry, top of Quarry and Teal’s Tango. The thin spots are there but they are minimal and easily avoidable. Once people start to snowplow our fine layer of snow will get pushed off. If you ever don’t feel comfortable please take your skis off and walk down the side of the trail.

The track is set on the left side. This strategy helps keeps the base firm across the whole trail. The skate skiers will pack down the snow to be able to make a firm track.

Make it your mission to get out for a ski today! It is awesome out there. It is a fast groomed granular but with lots of control and fun 😉. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky. It is best to get out in the morning as it will get softer in the afternoon. The warm weather in the coming days will affect the trails we have open.

As a heads up we do have a high school race tomorrow. It was suppose to be a small event but has turned into over 200 athletes because so many races have been cancelled due to snow conditions. These racers need a certain number of races to be able to qualify for OFSAA. The races do not start until 11AM so we are suggesting you coming out for an early ski on Thursday. Although we will not be closing the trails so you can definitely sneak up to the trails they are not using. They won’t be skiing farther than a 7km loop. High school racing is skate skiing and won’t be using the track.

Make the most of the skiing while you can! Conditions are pretty good out there.  We are moving into some warmer temperatures which is going to change the quality of the snow. Chanse has groomed with the Husky again to clean everything up, which is very help for those downhills. We continue to have a fast groomed granular that you can get an edge on. Getting out early will make a bit difference!

There are a couple things to note.

The hill that was the worst of it was coming down from Larrys Glacier and the Recreational downhill. If you ever don’t feel comfortable please take your skis off and walk down the side of the trail.
