It looks like we’ve another bit of freezing rain to endure before we have a chance at snow.

Skiing, fat biking, and snowshoe trails will remain closed today while we wait to see what Mother Nature brings us for this weekend.

Well we’ve started into a cooling trend, with hopefully consistent sub-zero temperatures through the weekend, and snow in the forecast!

All trails, skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing, will remain closed today so that we can preserve the base that remains.

Come and do the SNOW DANCE tonight at 6PM.  We are looking for willing dancers of all ages (no experience necessary!) to join dance instructor Melissa James as she teaches us a few basic steps. The outcome of this fun, family friendly, event will be a choreographed dance routine that is sure to make that ‘white gold’ fall from the sky.  Enjoy a bonfire and some social time afterwards as well.

8am Update: use the Teaching Hill to return back to the Chalet.

The trails are holding up even after these warm sunny days. We are starting to see a few more thin spots that had more sun exposure. The downhills are continuing to hold up but if you want to use the S-Climb Bypass to come back to the Chalet that is an option. That can be found at the bottom of the First Finger just before Millennium Loop. Once at the bottom of the S-Climb follow the Green trail home.
The main thin spots are around the Sugar Shack, Hawberry Loop and the Millennium uphill. Stick to the left coming down from Larry’s Glacier. There is a small rock there. There is also a pilon cover a rock on the Recreational Downhill.
Chanse has done around with the snowmobile to tidy yesterdays traffic with the pan. Blue, Yellow, Orange Trail and Millennium Loop are open.
$15 trail passes
Have you planned your Wednesday and Friday evening this week? On Wednesday we have our snow dance class and Friday its chili night! That the opportunity to snowshoe, fat bike or hopefully ski 🤞 until 8 those evenings as well.
Email ski@highlandsnordic.ca reserve your spot.
Stay on only what is groomed please. Rock skiing is defined as skiing without full coverage and a thin a base, where they may be derby sticking through. Rock skiing is not for beginner skiers and our rentals skis are not to be used.
Fat Biking

This the time for fat biking to shine. Conditions continue to be pretty good.
Come on out to check out the trails. Visit the front desk to be introduced to the Fat Bike map. Don’t have a fat bike? Let us introduce our fat bike rental fleet 😍! We have 7 bikes of various sizes. Call to reserve a bike, 705-444-5017. Ride Teal’s Tango, we also have a 2km single track lower loop. The full loop is about 10km of single track making its way up the escapement and through the magical Highlands forest.

The reports coming in yesterday said the skiing was pretty good! Yes there are some thin spots to keep and eye out for especially around Sugar Shack and with such a small base it is just like early season November skiing. But up top the snow is much better. The downhills did hold up yesterday but if you want to use the S-Climb Bypass to come back to the Chalet that is an option. That can be found at the bottom of the First Finger just before Millennium Loop. Once at the bottom of the S-Climb follow the Green trail home.

10:30 Update
We are continuing to get an unexpected light snow falling. Trails will be slightly snow-covered. It is a chilly day at -10 but there is no wind, so with proper layers in the trees it is going to be a dream. Chanse was able to get a track in some spots that still had the snow that held on. Use caution on the downhills. The S-Climb Bypass can be used to come back to the Chalet from the upper network instead of the Hairpin. That is at the bottom of the First Finger just before Millennium Loop. Once at the bottom of the S-Climb follow the Green trail home.

We have had some white gold fall out of the sky over night! Finally just enough to get the ball rolling again.
Chanse is first rolling the trails and then will take the pan out to smooth it. Where its good it’s really good but there are some thin spots and would be considered rock skiing. There isn’t quite enough to put a track in yet. Orange Trail and Millennium Loop are open.
$15 trail passes

Fat Biking

With these colder temperatures we are able to open up the fat bike trails. There will be a little dusting of snow over the firm trail. Visit the front desk to be introduced to the Fat Bike map. We have received a dusting a snow and it is snowing a little bit now, although the forecast has changed so it doesn’t seem like we are getting much. Stay tuned to see what comes from the sky today.

See you tonight at the Where’s the Fluff race!

During the time our ski trails are closed anyone who is a Season’s Pass Holder are welcome to come hike or run on our network. Humans only please – no pups, unless you are visiting Teal’s Tango. Please remain mindful of the precious snow we still have on the trails. You will discover there are still come sections that are completely snow-covered. Once Mother Nature grants us some more snow we will be using this snow to build our base again. During your outing if you come across a well snow-covered patch of trail please walk on the side of the trail to prevent any damage.
We will remain open for the ProShop and what trails we can offer from 9 to 4 daily.
