Looks like a great day for Family Day! Trail conditions are in great shape and it looks like the wind has finally quieted down. Later in the afternoon we will likely see some little flurries. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky. Come out and enjoy the day!

A couple of general reminders:

– When snowshoeing please be sure to stay on the snowshoe trail.
– please wear a mask from the parking lot to 50 metres beyond the building
– contact tracing and screening still needs to be completed.

Fat biking is closed. Snowshoeing is welcome! It will take some time to deal with the fresh snow. Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Rental & Lesson Update: We are still working on our online system so we will continue to take bookings by phone for rentals and lessons. Once a reservation has been made, payment and filling out the rental form can be completed onsite. Please call 705-444-6959. Thanks in advance for your patience.

We request you complete the online Contact Tracing and screening when coming onto the PROPERTY the day you are visiting. You should complete this before you come to ski or snowshoe or fat bike. You cannot do this the night before. This is a public health requirement. This screening will be checked ONLY when entering the building. Entry is through the pro shop doors. Note that cell service may not be good enough to fill out the online form onsite. Once the screening and tracing is complete you will receive an email. Take a screen shot of your contact tracing so it easy to find if you are planning on coming into the building! If the email you receive has come back red, it means you have answered YES to one of the screen questions. In that case public health regulations mean you are NOT able to ski at our location that day. If the email you receive comes back green, we will see you on the trails shortly! As a back-up we will have a paper copy that can be filled out onsite. Click here to contact trace. This must be completed every day you come skiing!
Our conditions texting update program is back! We update the conditions page every morning, but sometimes things change through the day. With this program updates will come directly to you as a text. No app download required. Your phone number will not be shared. These updates are not to replace checking the conditions page, but to update you on changes through the day. Send you cell phone number to ski@highlandsnordic.ca

It looks like we will get some sunshine today. The high is plus 1 today but that won’t happen until later this afternoon is looks like. We have below zero temperatures most of the day. Not as cold today but still pretty high winds. Trails in the trees will be the best choice as there will be some drifting in the open areas. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky.
When snowshoeing please be sure to stay on the snowshoe trail.

Another snowfall over night to freshen things up 😉 Trails are in excellent shape and Chanse has regroomed with the Husky. There is a call for high winds day, so finding trails to ski in the trees will be the best strategy. There is still snow falling so you will find the trails snow covered. Open areas will be drifted.

Today is Demo Day! Come test out product from Fischer, Rundle and Salomon. Start to plan your purchase for next season! Testing can be done on the Green Trail. This will give you the chance to see what the ski is like on flats, up hill and downhill.

What a change from 24 hours ago! We are back from our short spring break. Thankfully the snow held off long enough to do some trail clean up. Chanse and Hayden managed to clear off the debris from the wind and now we have a fresh 30cm of snow! It is still continuing to snow so you will find the trails a little snow covered. Classic will be the better technique today since it will be soft. It will be a bit windy. So choose trails that are sheltered, since there will be some drifting in the open areas. Chanse is out with the Husky to groom thing out for us. Night skiing will be open tonight!

We are going to be going through quite a transition today, and also dealing with trail clean up and water management. Trails will be closed today. The trails are also way to soft to groom. We will see you for an update tomorrow!

Spring skiing in February today! Chanse groomed last night to let things set up as it will quickly get warm today. Skiing will actually be pretty good today. It will get soft as the day goes on. There will be some drifts in the open areas. Rain is not called for until this evening. And for that reason we will cancel night skiing tonight.

Fat biking is closed. Although if you want to come for a short window to ride this morning you can. It will soften quickly. Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

A nice little dusting of snow falling as Chanse grooms with the Husky. Trails are looking great for classic and as it warms up we might see a good skate day too. Chanse has put a track all the way around including all up and downhills. For some experienced skiers this could be a fun challenge. But for others, don’t feel like you need to be locked into the track! Step out of the track and move the skate lane to tackle any ups and downs you aren’t able to do in the tracks. Some questionable weather coming in the next couple of days. Get out while the skiing is good! We feel we will be able to get through it but who know how good conditions will be on the other side.

Fat biking is open. Riding will continue to be good today. Likely we will see some trail closures over the next couple of days to hopefully open back up for the weekend. Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Another day in frostyland but don’t let that scare you off. The skiing is so great right now! Another excellent classic ski day. Skate will also be good just slow, with this squeaky cold snow. Layers will be key today but the best part is there is no wind! That makes it so much better. Once the sun peeks out today it will be great. Enjoy a ski with someone you care about this Valentines Day.

Fat biking is open. Riding is going to be really good today! Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Frosted tips are sooo in right now 💁‍♀️ Another cold but totally awesome day on the trails! Little to know wind predicted makes all the difference on these days. Chanse has regroomed with the Husky for this perfect classic ski day. Skate skiing will be very slow today. Cold snow is slow snow! Get those layers and spend some time outside today.

Short description of the Strava Challenge: Start behind the chalet, ski up to Biathlon Range, down Sampson’s Loop, onto Millennium, loop Larry’s Magic, finish First Finger, Second Finger to Quarry, Flat 500, Back Orange, Ridge Top and then bring it home. Full description below 👇

This weekend is the Highlands Strava challenge! Classic or skate the choice is yours! All you need to do is participate to be entered for our draw prize. The Strava route is called Highlands Nordic Adventure 2022. Just over 8km, come and explore different trails this weekend. Start by heading up to the Biathlon Range. To get there go to the end of the building and turn right to go up the hill. At the top, to your right you will see the portable. From there you can pop on your skis and head up the hill. The trail will veer to the left. Go past the Biathlon Range, go down the hill on the left and take the first right. You are now on the Sampson Loop! When you come to the T hang a right onto the Millennium Loop. Thats right…say hello to the Millennium Loop uphill. Come out of Millennium and hang a right at the hill just before the First Finger Hill. Go up and hang the first right. Fly down the hill (for a little Larry’s Magic) and do a quick overlap as you come back onto the Millennium Loop and head straight up the First Finger Hill and continue to the Second Finger. Dip down the Quarry Loop and ski around to the Flat 500. Follow the Back Orange and flow down to Ridge Top. You are almost done! Enter the final stretch of Hawberry Loop (only completing that section) and start to head home. Come down from Larry’s Glacier, following the trail around the Old Stadium (your usual way down), and finish off with the Recreational Downhill to come to end at the edge of the building. Congratulations and thanks for completing the first Highlands Strava Challenge.

Fat biking is open. Trails are riding really well with just a dusting of snow on top! Follow @highlandsfatbike on Instagram for daily updates on conditions.

Another wintery day at Highlands! A little cooler than yesterday and will continue to drop to -12. It is pretty windy today so you will find open areas will get drifted. It is also snow covered with new snow that has arrived since Chanse started grooming. Chanse has regroomed everything with the Husky. Layer up, find trails in the trees today and embrace winter!
