In the hills of Highlands yesterday we received snow all day instead of rain! It has done a lot to really improve the downhills. Given the forecast it would be best to try and squeeze a ski in if you can today! It was very wet snow so make sure you have used some Easy Glide or waxed your skis to help them glide over the snow.

It is thin up Sugar Shack Hill and out Rainbow Out. Once up top the coverage is much better with just an early season roll. With a thin spot on Hawberry.

Anybody going to do a special delivery of snow! That’s all I want for Christmas this year. Just a reminder we are closed today at 2:30 and then fully closed December 25.

8:30 Update:

We have fully shifted to snow! It is sitting at zero degrees with about 1cm of snow already fallen. This snow will make a big difference especially on the downhills. It will be pretty good skiing overall. Roads in the area are clear and not icy. Hope to see you soon ☃️

We saw some rain and freezing rain overnight and it is just starting to transition now to snow. The trails are not icy, they are soft. Although we may see some icy sections on the downhills that have been snowplowed. Again Chanse needs to keep machinery off otherwise it is just going to make more of a mess.

Today you will find the trails ungroomed. Since we have a small amount of base the type of grooming equipment we have will only make more of mess than be helpful right now.
It continues to be thin on Sugar Shack, out Rainbow Out and Hawberry. Overall the coverage up top is not too bad. You will find the downhills will be icy. If you are planning to get out today give it until a little later in the day to let the sun get on it to soften it up.

I took one for the team forced myself to do a trail inspection yesterday 😉 Here is what I learned! Heading up the Sugar Shack Hill and out Rainbow Out is on the thin side. Once you get to the S-Climb it is in pretty good shape. There is definitely that early season roll since there isn’t enough snow to smooth it out. You will find some thin spots on the Hawberry Loop as well.

I would say use some caution coming down to Larry’s Glacier and back to the chalet. But there is still enough there to get an edge to be able to snowplow down.

All in all not perfect conditions but I know for myself it was just great to get outside and be on skis.

Chanse has gone around to do a tidy up with the snowmobile and pan.

Chanse has done a pass around the network to get things tidied up from yesterday. We are seeing some thin spots by the Sugar Shack and on Hawberry Loop. With very little snow in the forecast we will have to learn to work with what we got!

Fresh snow has arrived. It is thick and heavy snow to work with. Chanse is out rolling with the snowmobile first and then is panning it to smooth it out. Make sure to use Easy Glide and wax your skis this stuff is wet!

Well that was short lived.

Thanks to that wind that little bit of snow got sucked up really fast. Keep that snow dance up!

Looks like we are able to squeeze out some trails with that nice little snowfall we got yesterday. It will be better to get your ski in by noon. Skiing will be much better up top. I would use some caution on the downhills.

I am having trouble trying to dressing up Chanse’s description of the trails this morning so I’ll just quote him instead. “Not great, not horrible” Says Chanse, Head Groomer of Highlands Nordic at 6:36AM via text. Come on out and stretch your legs if you are keen for a ski this morning!

Trails are closed until we get more snow! We received a dusting last night so at least things look pretty again. Waiting eagerly for our next big snow fall. In the meantime….Please do NOT walk on the trails.

Well another disappointing showing from Mother Nature. We are back to nothing on the trails. Cue my biggest Charlie Brown Sigh.

Yes, it was warm but it was really the warm wind that did us in. So now is the time for your snow dance and hope for a big storm soon!

Jackrabbits will still go with other activities.
